Inquiries Observation Project
The Transitional Justice Institute (TJI) was successful in its tender to the Committee on the Administration of Justice (CAJ) and British Irish Rights Watch (BIRW) and undertook a project involving the observation of the Billy Wright Inquiry, the Rosemary Nelson Inquiry and the Robert Hamill Inquiry. The Project Co-ordinator, was Ms Colleen Smyth who oversaw the project and worked with Dr Michael Hamilton and a Steering Committee comprised of Professor Fionnuala Ni Aolain, Professor Bill Rolston, Dr Chris Lamont and Ita Connolly. Elizabeth Super from the University of Minnesota worked with the TJI on the project as a summer intern in 2009 and 2010. A team of observers was tasked with observing and reporting on the three Inquiries through to their conclusion. These observers were drawn from past and present PhD and LLM students at the TJI. The Steering Committee continues to work with British Irish Rights Watch and CAJ as the research and observation has concluded to ensure dissemination and knowledge of the Inquiries and their work. Ms. Smith, now a full time Ph.D. student at the TJI, has joined the Steering Committee.
